DOEK は久留米に140年続く履物メーカーでスニーカーを作っています。「 DOEK (ドゥック) 」という名前は、日本語の「ズック」の語源となったオランダ語。元々は「織物」という意味があります。同じく久留米に200年前から根付く織物に「久留米絣」があります。私たちはこれまでもこの久留米絣を使った商品を作ってきました。そんな私たちがスニーカーを作るときの考えは至ってシンプルです。 “魅力的な生地を作り、またはそれを探し良質なスニーカーを作る”。

「DOEK OXFORD」は内羽根式のテニスシューズのデザインを踏襲、特定の主張となるようなものを無くし、素材とそれらを最大限生かすことだけを考えました。使用するファブリックには、新たに国産ギャバディーン生地の「NEW CHAMOIS(ニューセーム)」を採用。その名の通り「カモシカ」の革のようになめらかでマットな質感は、平織りのキャンバスとはまた異なる表情です。細番手の糸で高密度に打込んだギャバディーン生地は、撥水性や耐久性に優れ、それでいてコットン100%なので、手入れも簡単です。フットベッドには、天然の通気性を持った素材であるコルクを採用しました。丹誠な手仕事によるヴァルカナイズ製法は、美しさ、履きやすさ、耐久性において、いまの暮しに必要十分な日用品を生み出します。

“doek” are made in a footwear factory that continues for 140 years in Kurume City, Japan. Their name is the Dutch word meaning “fabric,” which the Japanese word for simple canvas shoes, “Zukku” derives from. Cherishing the tradition while exploring new techniques, our idea has been to create simple sneakers that bring out the charm of the cloth itself.

Follows in the footsteps of the classic Derby-style basketball shoe-design. Made with Japan-made gabardine, “NEW CHAMOIS.” The smooth and matte texture its name entails is different in character from the plain-woven canvas. The cloth that is densely woven using thin thread is water repellent and durable, and care is easy because it is 100% cotton. The footbed is made with naturally-breathing cork. It is daily wear with beauty, comfort, and durability, due to the vulcanizing method that is done by hand.
